Lind & Lime reaps rewards from keg system - The Spirits Business
Edinburgh-based Lind & Lime claims to have saved an estimated 680kg of glass since the introduction of its keg programme earlier this year.
Available exclusively through Royal Mile Whiskies, the brand offers its gin in kegs to its on-trade partners, which then reduces the need for glass bottles and in turn helps bars and restaurants limit their waste.
Once a venue is finished with the keg, Royal Mile collects it and sends it back to the supplier where it is cleaned and refilled, and readied for use again.
In a post on LinkedIn, the brand said the move is “more than just a new way to store and pour”, it’s a “step toward reducing waste while keeping quality at the forefront”.
Since making the switch to kegs, the brand said it has saved approximately 680kg of glass, as well as more than 2,600g of cork, paper and wood.
Ian Stirling, co-founder of Lind & Lime, said: “The response we’ve seen from our on-trade partners about the kegs has been extremely encouraging. Not only are the kegs reducing waste and minimising recycling needs, but they’re also proving to be a space-efficient option for bars and restaurants.
“It’s a win-win for our partners and the environment, and we’re excited to bring them an option that reflects our commitment to sustainability without compromising quality.”
Besides reducing single-use packaging, the kegs are said to be 35% more carbon efficient than traditional glass bottles.
Last month, the B Corp Certified brand released a reusable 100% organic cotton furoshiki gift wrap for its bottles, becoming the first UK spirits brand to do so.
Beyond its environmental efforts, Lind & Lime also recently created its first ready-to-drink product, a White Strawberry Negroni, made in collaboration with Edinburgh bar Hey Palu.
